Context

Mali is located in the Sahelian area in West Africa. The country is landlocked with an estimated population of about 20.2 million, 60% of whom live in rural areas. Fifty-one percent of Mali's population is female and a high proportion of young people under the age of 25 (65%). Life expectancy in Mali is 58.90 years (2018).
